Forsyth Correctional Release Paths
Forsyth Correctional Center is a minimum-custody adult male state prison operated by NCDAC Institutions. It is not a county jail, and FCSO's P2C Inmate Inquiry does not track its prison releases. The state offender record may show release to the community without continuing correctional supervision, parole for an eligible sentence, mandatory post-release supervision, interstate supervision, or movement to another NCDAC facility.
A transfer out of Forsyth Correctional Center is not necessarily release from state custody. The status and location in NCDAC Offender Public Information determine whether the person is still incarcerated, supervised in the community, or inactive after completing the recorded correctional relationship. “Active” can describe prison or community supervision, so it does not always mean the person remains inside a prison.
Search Forsyth Correctional Releases
The NCDAC Offender Public Information search is the main statewide archive for incarceration, probation, parole, post-release supervision, and inactive history. It reaches older released records as well as current state relationships.
- Enter the exact offender number when available, or begin with first and last name.
- Use birth date or age, gender, and race only as offered identity refiners.
- Include inactive records so a discharged or formerly incarcerated person is not filtered out.
- Open the likely profile and compare offender number, age, conviction county, offense, admission, and sentence dates.
- Read the status and current or supervision location, then distinguish Projected Release Date from Actual Release Date.
- Review sentence and supervision history before deciding whether state custody ended or changed form.
The official criminal-offender-search hub excludes county-jail information. That limit works both ways: a person held only at FCLEDC may have no new NCDAC event, while a person transferred from FCLEDC to this prison can disappear from P2C and remain an active state inmate.
When a profile shows only a future projection, do not convert it into a confirmed exit. Consecutive or concurrent judgments, jail credit, earned-time adjustments, disciplinary action, a later sentence, detainers, and recalculation can change the administrative date. The exact label on the live record matters. A completed prison episode should have an actual event or history that can be reconciled with the status.
Forsyth Correctional Record Fields
OPI fields vary by the person's record and sentence. Several fields must be read together because no single label answers every release question.

An inactive profile means no current NCDAC custody or supervision record. It is broader than “released from Forsyth Correctional Center today.” An active probationer, parolee, or person on post-release supervision is physically outside prison while still under state correctional authority.
NCDAC Forsyth Release Search
NCDAC also operates a dedicated Inmate Release Search. It permits a surname or prefix search and a county, year, and month query. Forsyth is release-county code 34. On the research date, the year selector covered 2024 through 2026 and also offered “Release County Not Reported” and “Released To Other State(s).”
This dataset concerns state-prison releases. A Forsyth release-county result does not prove that the person was released from FCLEDC or even that Forsyth Correctional Center was the last institution. Match the offender number, actual date, sentence history, and release-county field to the intended person. For an older event, the general OPI search is the better route because the official hub says prison, probation, and parole information extends back to 1972.
NCDAC release policy recognizes more than one exit category. Expiration or max-out, court-ordered release, return of a safekeeper to a sheriff, interstate compact release, pardon, and commutation do not all lead to the same place. A safekeeper returned to the sheriff remains in custody. Interstate compact handling can move supervision to another state. Read the disposition rather than compressing every event into “released.”

Use the NCDAC public-records channel for a full or corrected release history. Supply the offender's name and number, birth date if known, exact field or event, and the time period. Electronic copies are the default. NCDAC says a simple request may take days, while complex requests can take weeks or months. That guidance is not a guaranteed deadline.
North Carolina public-record law permits access to public material while protecting confidential correctional, security, medical, and supervision details. If a record mixes public and protected information, request the segregable public portions rather than asking NCDAC to create a new analysis.
A correction request should identify the field that appears wrong and include the judgment or release document that supports the concern. The public Community Supervision office can route a question after release, but officer notes, risk data, and many supervision conditions are confidential. Public office confirmation and a full supervision case file are not the same request.
Forsyth Correctional Center Facts
The official NCDAC facility page identifies Forsyth Correctional Center as a 248-capacity minimum-custody institution for adult men and a designated reentry facility.

The statute source reinforces the facility's state status. County-jail release forms and the Sheriff's roster are not substitutes for the NCDAC offender and sentence record.
Forsyth Correctional Reentry Programs
Forsyth Correctional Center offers work release, community work squads, study release, treatment programming, and Project Re-Entry. These programs reflect its minimum-custody and reentry role, but participation does not establish that a sentence discharged. A person can work or study outside the institution under authorized conditions while remaining in NCDAC custody.
After actual prison release, the record may show parole or post-release supervision. Parole principally concerns older eligible sentences and narrow statutory categories. PRS is the mandatory community portion for applicable modern felony sentences. Interstate compact supervision can place a person in another state without ending North Carolina's correctional relationship.
A state prison release should also be kept separate from a federal or immigration event. BOP and ICE locators cover their own agencies and do not replace OPI. If an NCDAC record identifies a transfer or detainer, follow the named recipient. Absence from Forsyth Correctional Center alone cannot establish that no other custody continues.
Forsyth County is Community Supervision Judicial District 21. The NCDAC office directory lists the public district office at 301 N. Church Street, third floor, Winston-Salem, with telephone 336-761-2424. Use that office for public routing after OPI indicates supervision, not for protected case notes.
Forsyth Correctional Release Authority
A Forsyth County criminal judgment may explain the sentence that led to state custody, but the court case is not a substitute for the NCDAC physical release record. Amended judgments, consecutive or concurrent terms, jail credit, earned time, disciplinary changes, additional sentences, and detainers can affect an administrative projection.
For a completed event, compare the judgment with the Actual Release Date and status history. A return of a safekeeper to a sheriff is a custody transfer. An interstate compact release can continue supervision elsewhere. Max-out or expiration has a specific NCDAC policy meaning involving completion without parole or PRS reporting for that sentence.
